Be careful if you are walking on verges and gardens adorned with crocuses. These are such an important source of nectar for our emerging bees that they often shelter in the flowers overnight. Look out for the hairy footed flower bee and queen bumble bees flying out of the flowers absolutely covered in pollen.

Greenhaven members have been planting crocuses all over the district over the last few years into our verges to provide this much needed nectar source for our insects coming out of hibernation but also to give us all a smile. They truly life the spirits don’t they after gloomy cold winters.

Bulbs are so easy to plant and come up year after year, they also do fabulously in pots and on windowsills. Why not plant a few and give a bee a home.
