The Artwave festival is a highlight of the year for people who enjoy looking at art and visiting open houses, and this year it has even expanded along the Egrets way. The Egret’s way art trail takes in ten venues that can be visited along the shared use Egrets way trail. The trail includes several interesting venues around Swanborough, Northease, Southease and Rodmell, and others at the ends of the trail in Newhaven and Lewes. It’s well worth a visit, and our chairman has been spreading the word across the channel!

During a formal working breakfast as part of the commemorations of the Anglo-Canadian raid of 1942, at which Civic leaders from Dieppe and the Seine-Maritime, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, together with Mayors and Chairs, exchanged small gifts. I presented the French representatives (including the MP and the Mayor of Dieppe), with a set of leather coasters made by Artbox in Swanborough.

The coasters depict the birds of the Egrets Way and I included literature, together with encouragement to visit!

That was in my role as Chair of Lewes District Council but it also fulfilled a Greenhavens objective to encourage everyone to value our green heritage…..so, we’ve- in a modest way- crossed the channel but reached their civic leaders too.
