If you read the “Seaford Scene” magazine, you may have noticed that I have been writing about the “Refill Seaford and Newhaven” project for about 18 months now. The aim of Refill is to get the public to stop buying plastic bottles of water and refill their own. When out and about this can be an issue, so a network has been developed of businesses and public buildings found with the Refill app, who will happily refill bottles. All over the country, individuals and community groups have been getting more refill stations on board. Now we have a bigger target – the return of the Public Water fountain.

You may have seen Water Fountains in the larger towns, especially in London and at mainline train stations, but we are now working with Sustain, to encourage local communities to increase accessibility to free tap water by:
• committing to a target of 50 working public fountains
• mapping existing drinking fountains on the Refill app
• installing new public drinking fountains to reach the target

We know there are a couple of these already in Newhaven and Denton so we were keen to get one into the Salts at the new Seaford skatepark, and have plans for more on the Seafront in Seaford. If you know of any more, please let us know and they can go on the App.

I will be speaking about this and our other initiatives at the next Greenhavens meeting on December 4th , 7pm Upper Meeching Hall, Newhaven so do come along.

Remember that around the world a million plastic bottles are bought every minute and this is still rising. Have you got the bottle to join the #refillrevolution? Finally If you run or know of a business that wants to join the scheme do let us know or they can sign themselves up using the app or website

Please don’t forget you can download the Refill app here to get the location maps to find Refill points and also to register your business and others if you have their permission.

If you need a quality refillable bottle you can buy a Chilly’s bottle from refill.org.uk/buy-a-bottle/. This will keep your drink hot or cold and Chilly’s will make a £10 donation to the Refill campaign.
