You may have heard Margery speaking about the Last Wood project at our last network meeting. Here we hear more about the tree wardens and how you can get involved.

The Seaford Tree wardens are a small group of Seaford residents who are dedicated to planting trees to help enhance our outside spaces, bring communities together and leave a green legacy for future generations of the town to enjoy. We carry out several plantings a year in the winter months, and spend the rest of the year planning for these and taking care of our existing young trees in our TLC sessions.

We want to give our saplings the best start to make sure they grow as strong and healthy as they possibly can. Now that, with the help and support of Seaford residents, we have planted several hundred young trees in the town, making sure that every one of these trees gets tended to at least once per year in their first years of life is no mean feat. To help with this the Tree Wardens have started running regular tree TLC community sessions.

Twice per month, on the first Saturday and third Tuesday of every month, weather permitting, Seaford Tree Wardens have been meeting with town residents, to carry out basic tree care on our town’s young trees. Anyone is welcome at these sessions, and they have proved to be great fun, with a real sense of bringing community together in the fresh air, all working together to beautify our environment. There might even be a biscuit or two in the deal too!

The sessions last for two hours, and you don’t need to have any prior knowledge of trees or gardening as we can show you what to do. We provide tools to use, although if you can bring your own that is great too.

The Tree Wardens are also currently recruiting new members, you don’t have to have any existing in-depth knowledge about trees, just an enthusiasm for improving the green spaces in our town. Full training is given, and if you have any special skills that you’d been keen to contribute, such as a knack for social media, promotion or indeed anything else, even better!

If you’d like to join a TLC session, you can check when and where we are next meeting, or find out more about joining the Tree Wardens on our Facebook page (Seaford Tree Wardens) or our website
