There have been a number of appeals recently (mostly in our facebook group) and we thought we would spread the word on our website! Please do get in touch with the groups if you can help at all. Also check out our calendar for lots of volunteer events in our green spaces, many of our groups would love to meet some new volunteers!

Walkers and walk leaders

There are quite a few health walks in the area, and there is an appeal for more volunteers for the Wave Leisure walks. These walks are free, although the group regularly organise fundraising walks too. In 2019, walkers from the Seaford and Peacehaven Health Walks attended six themed Charity Walks that were organised by the Health Walk leaders. A total of £900 was raised and was recently presented to crew members of Newhaven Lifeboat. This large donation will pay for one full lifeboat crew members kit. Well done to all of our walkers and walk leaders!

“Our next charity walk will be on 1st April, venue to be confirmed. Each walker plays £3 to £4 donation for the walk which last for three hours with a tea or pub stop! We are a very friendly bunch as new walkers are always welcome.” Jackie, walk leader

“Without our walk leaders, health walks simply wouldn’t be possible. If you are interested in supporting and inspiring others to get active through walking, then being a volunteer walk leader or assistant could be just the role for you. If you would like to find out more please contact the Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator on 01323 408862 or email referral@waveleisure.co.uk.” Wave Leisure

Local rights of way – Lower Hoddern farm

Don’t forget our campaign to record all our rights of way. Sue at Peacehaven orchard would like to hear from anyone who has a history of walking along the concrete path or other nearby paths on Lower Hoddern Farm , so that the right of ways can be evidenced and protected for the future. You can help by filling in an evidence form.

Havens Community Cars need drivers

“Havens Community Cars CIO is a volunteer car scheme that has been registered with the Charity Commission and has an unpaid volunteer Trustee board. A big barrier to inclusion is lack of transport options – we know there is a large gap for transport for hospital visits to Brighton, Eastbourne, Uckfield and Haywards Heath and for other journeys outside the area or times of operation of other community or public transport organisations.

Our scheme has been designed to be sustainable and long-term, benefiting residents not already being supported by other transport providers or able to easily access public transport.

We are currently recruiting volunteer drivers. To be part of our friendly, fun team that aims to make a difference please email havenscommcar@gmail.com or ring or text 07710 426321

The service for clients is aimed to be launched once we have a sufficient number of volunteer drivers. We are aiming for March/April 2020. https://www.havenscommunityhub.co.uk/community-carshare-scheme”

Talking trees

Laura at Talking Trees is also looking for a volunteer to help her with her with her under 5 forest school sessions. She is also seeking funding to promote this project and to replace kit and tools like magnifiers, palm drills etc and for things like spot sheets and nature books. Do get in touch if you can help.

Trees for Seaford

Trees for Seaford (previously Seaford Tree Wardens) need new volunteers interested in planting and caring for trees, and helping on the admin side for the group. “Could you be one of Trees for Seaford’s new core members? We’re launching ’20 for 20’ in a bid to get more residents involved in planting and looking after trees in our town. Here are some of the roles we’re recruiting for in 2020. Can you help? Please get in touch to sign up or find out more!” Their launch event is on Monday 2nd March, do get in touch if you are interested.

Greenhavens for green havens

Last but not least, a short appeal for us.. We have been very busy applying for funding to support all the community groups, but Greenhavens needs to raise some modest funds towards the ongoing expenses of the group including maintenance of our website, expenses for meetings, marketing materials, stationery etc. With more unrestricted funds we could pay for guest speakers, pay volunteer expenses where needed, and buy prizes, props and giveaways for competitions and events etc. We will soon be setting up online donation pages, but in the meantime you can donate with a cheque made out to “Greenhavens Network”. Ideally we would love to find a Greenhavens fundraising coordinator volunteer! Let us know if you can help, or have any ideas for raising funds for us. You can also support us when you play the Lewes Lottery and have a chance of winning up to £25,000.

You support will be helping us with much needed funds to develop the network and support your community groups. Thank you
